Central to many ancient and modern indigenous religions, the shaman is an intermediary or messenger between the human and spirit worlds. By visiting supernatural realms or dimensions, he or she gains knowledge and power to heal spiritually misguided and physically ill members of the community. Artist Susan Seddon Boulet (American, b. Brazil, 1941–1997) revealed her fascination with shamanism in the late 1980s with the publication of her book, Shaman: The Paintings of Susan Seddon Boulet. Inspired by mythology, poetry, Jungian psychology, worldwide spiritual traditions, and a deep love of animals and the natural world, Boulet infused her paintings with a powerful yet delicate blend of natural forms and mysticism.
Twelve of Boulet’s shaman paintings have been selected for this calendar. Each is accompanied by an excerpt from a Native American song, chant, poem, or narrative.
All of Pomegranate’s calendars are printed with soy-based inks on FSC® certified paper, which means the paper has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ and manufactured by an FSC certified printer.
